Description
Habit: Annual, with mealy stems and leaves, to 25 cm high.
Stems: Spreading, trailing, semi-erect or more rarely erect.
Leaves: Mealy, with relatively long leaf-stalks, not strongly tapered at the base, triangular.
Flowers: In loose panicles, unisexual; male with 5 sepals and stamens; female without sepals but with 2 broadly triangular and thick bracteoles, united about halfway to the base, bearing small more or less evenly sized teeth, enlarging and enclosing the ovary and fruit; styles 2.
Fruits: A small nut.
Habitat: Sandy and stony seashores and margins of salt-marshes.
Distribution: Occasional, locally frequent.
