Scientific name: Hypericum elodes L. Common name: Marsh St. John's-wort
Description Habit: A woolly perennial, to 40 cm high. Stems: Erect to semi-erect, with stolons, creeping and rooting at the base, often woolly. Leaves: Opposite, without stipules, stalkless and clasping the stem, 10-15 mm long, entire, almost round. Flowers: Yellow, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, 15 mm across, in small terminal cymes; sepals 5, free, fringed with red glands; petals 5, free; stamens in 3 (rarely 5) bundles; styles 3; ovary superior. Fruits: A capsule, succulent and berry-like, seeds numerous.
Habitat: Streams, wet bogs, ditches. Distribution: Absent from limestone, frequent elsewhere.
