The copyright owners of the pictures on this site agree to single not-for-profit use in lectures, lecture notes, and seminars, provided the embossing is not removed. Unfortunately, I have been at lectures myself and have recognised images taken by me with the embossing removed and with no acknowledgement! Only jpegs are available for use for this purpose — as on the site — and other files are not provided because of the cost. Any use other than one which follows this stipulation in in breach of the copyright owner's rights.
All other use, including all commercial use and all use in web sites, whether public or private, is subject to copyright laws worldwide and contact should be made with Michael Guiry (michael.guiry@nuigalway.ie; fax: +353 91 525005) prior to use. Other, larger formats are generally available for such use, but generally at commercial rates.
Our images vary in size: 2-14 Mb for jpegs; 5-28 Mb for tiffs; more recent images are in NEF format; most images are 3000 x 2000 pixels wide, but newer ones are now larger.
Price Guide
We are happy to quote for your use: email us a description of how you are going to use our material and we will quote a price by return. Here are guide prices for common uses of our images. If you are genuinely on a tight budget we are happy to discuss ways we can work together.
Use in Editorial Print: Reproduction Right fees start at EUR50 for use in a printed brochure or leaflet. We are happy to quote for you to use as many images as you wish in an item of print with appropriate discounts.
Use in commercial audio-visual presentation: For supplying images suitable for digital presentations prices are EUR50 for the first image, with appropriate reductions thereafter.
Advertising: Prices are negotiated on an individual basis and depend on circulation and exclusivity.
Use on Websites: EUR50 for 12 months on your site for the first image.
Other Uses: We are happy to quote for your requirements.
All payments received for images are used entirely to support the site via a donation to the National University of Ireland Galway and are thus tax exempt and sales-tax free.
